They say good things never last — and sadly, that includes us.
Frank Energy is closing our bright green doors to new customers from June 10th, 2025, and over the coming months, our existing customers will be moved to Genesis (or another energy retailer of your choice).
We’re no longer taking on new customers, and existing customers won’t be able to move home with us.
We know you’ve probably got a few questions, so we’ve laid it all out below — straight up, no fine print.
FAQs
Why is Genesis absorbing Frank Energy?
Frank Energy launched in 2022 as a simple, straight-up alternative to the complicated NZ energy market.
But the energy worlds changed a lot since then. To keep pace and deliver the best experience possible, Genesis has decided to focus on a single retail brand — Genesis.
This means more investment, better tools, and a stronger future for all customers.
You can read the official press release here.
When will the change happen?
The transition began on 21 August 2025 and will happen in phases.
Some customers will move to Genesis first, while others will stay with Frank a little longer before their move.
Why is the move happening in phases?
We’re doing it this way to keep things smooth and reliable.
By moving customers in groups, we can make sure everyone gets the right support at the right time.
How can I find another power provider?
You can compare power companies using Powerswitch — it’s a free, independent service run by Consumer NZ.
It helps you find the most cost-effective power company and plan for your home.
What if I don’t switch to another provider?
If you’re in the first group moving, you’ll be automatically transferred to Genesis on its Flexi-Plan.
It’s a no fixed-term plan — so if you change your mind, you can still switch away later.
Genesis’s standard rates and terms will apply.
If you’re in a later group, you’ll stay with Frank a bit longer. We’ll let you know before your move.
When will I hear from Frank about this?
We sent out initial communications by email and post during the week of 9 June 2025.
If you haven’t heard from us, chat with us online so we can make sure we have your current details.
Further updates will go out in stages as each migration group gets closer to their move.
Who is Genesis?
Genesis and Frank are part of the same family — both brands belong to Genesis Energy Ltd.

I pay by direct debit — do I need to set that up again?
